RoHS 2 deadline update
All footwear containing electrical components will be affected by RoHS 2.
The January issue of SATRA Bulletin carried a report on the European RoHS 2 legislation, which will impact on all footwear containing batteries or other electrical components, such as light-up heels or step counters. To clarify the deadlines for companies involved in supplying such products, we are advising the following.
Footwear did not fall within the scope of RoHS 1, so it is not required to comply with this new directive until 22nd July 2019 – nor does it have to carry a CE mark to show that the product is in compliance with this directive until that date. By contrast, all electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) that was covered by RoHS 1 has been expected to carry the CE mark since 2nd January 2013.
Medical devices, monitoring and control instruments have various dates from 2014 to 2017 by which they must meet RoHS 2 requirements.
