Stahl India opens shoe finish centre of excellence
Stahl recently held an inauguration ceremony at its new Indian centre of excellence, established for the production of aftercare and shoe finish products. The facility has been built within the compound of the Stahl India Pvt Ltd manufacturing complex in Ranipet. This is in the heart of the leather and shoe industry in southern India, some 150km from Chennai. The official opening was performed by Group Chief Executive, Huub van Beijeren and Stahl India Managing Director, Tuncay Deriner, with assistance from Stahl India’s senior shoe finish distributors who had travelled in from around the country. The opening was attended by members of the Stahl global management team, Stahl India management and staff, the company’s technical shoe finish staff and many of Stahl’s customers. Stahl’s shoe finish staff from Pakistan and Bangladesh were also present at the event.
“This was a proud moment for the Stahl Group, to have the only facility of its kind in India dedicated to manufacturing products especially for the shoe industry, giving Stahl’s customers access to the very latest products, fully compliant with the latest legislation,” said Mr Van Beijeren. “This demonstrates Stahl’s continued commitment to the leather and shoe sector at a time of uncertainty in the industry.”
Stahl has been active in India for more than 35 years, and the Stahl India plant in Ranipet began operating in April 2000. According to Stahl, the new plant has the capacity to make almost 3,000 tonnes of product for use in the shoe industry, leathergoods manufacturing and aftercare markets. The factory is said to have specially designed, Indian-made equipment for the manufacture and packing of a full range of products. These include creams, top sprays, dipping finishes, cleaners and edge paints. The new unit also has a fully automated unit designed to manufacture and pack wax bars used in shoe finishing.
