Russian market improving for Turkish footwear firms

While Russia has long been an important market for exporters of Turkish leather apparel, Turkish footwear manufacturers have also seen an increase in sales to Russia in recent years.

According to the Turkish Footwear Industry Association President, Islan Seker, Turkey is now the biggest exporter of shoes to Russia after China, Italy and Vietnam. He is reported to believe that during the next two or three years, Turkey can increase the value of its annual footwear exports to Russia to above $200 million. Mr Seker also remarked that some African countries were developing into good export markets for Turkish shoes.
