SATRA chief executive visits Sichuan University
Austin Simmons, chief executive of SATRA, and China office membership consultant Vivien Hsieh recently visited Sichuan University in Chengdu to discuss possible areas of mutually advantageous collaboration. Sichuan University has developed a reputation for the quality of its footwear and leather schools, with many of China’s new footwear and leather technologists graduating there each year.
Headed by Dr Xu-bo, the University’s Biological and Leather Engineering Department has more than 1,000 students enrolled in four grades, including MA and PhD. There are five classes, totalling 150-200 students in each grade. The faculty incorporates laboratories and workshops that enable students to learn all aspects of shoemaking, including testing and the use of sophisticated manufacturing machines. The University also conducts footwear research, particularly relating to comfort.
