Marikina Mayor Del de Guzman recently invited residents in the Filipino city to join a fundraising project set up to support the local shoe industry. Proceeds from the venture will be used to help sustain the city’s producers by sending local people to schools which offer programmes covering footwear design, shoemaking and marketing.
“We need to sustain the thriving shoe industry in the next ten or more years in order for Marikina to continuously compete for the local and international market,” said Mr de Guzman. “Through this scholarship programme, we can assure that Marikina will still have the industry’s best assets – its people and their contribution to our sustainable industry.”
A special benefit dinner held by Mr de Guzman featured a fashion show, where ambassadors, politicians and other prominent personalities paraded in shoes manufactured by local companies.
