Autodesk announces plan to acquire Delcam

California-based software specialist Autodesk has announced its intention to acquire Delcam, a leading supplier of advanced software for the manufacturing industry. The two companies offer complementary ranges of software, and Autodesk’s 3-D design, engineering and entertainment programs may be supported by Delcam’s background in manufacturing.

With headquarters in Birmingham, UK (pictured above), Delcam has more than 30 offices worldwide and employs some 700 members of staff. The company’s range of design, manufacturing and inspection software provides automated CADCAM solutions for a variety of industries, including footwear, automotive, aerospace and sports equipment.

On completion of the acquisition, Delcam will become a subsidiary of Autodesk. It will maintain its focus on accelerating the growth of its market share in the manufacturing sector, and is expected to gain strength from being part of a larger organisation. According to Delcam, customers will continue to be supported by its engineers through its global network of subsidiaries, joint ventures and sales partners.
