US sports shoe imports total almost $10 billion

Athletic shoes accounted for nearly 40 per cent of the value of footwear imports into the USA.

According to recent US government figures, the nation’s retailers and wholesalers imported athletic shoes to a value of some $9.75 billion in 2014. The overall value of all footwear imports last year reportedly increased by 4.7 per cent to $25 billion, with sports footwear accounting for almost 40 per cent of this total value. In terms of volume, 2.3 billion pairs of shoes of all kinds were imported into the USA – almost the same number as during the previous year.
