Baltimore, USA-based Under Armour has reported third-quarter sales surpassing $1 billion (£652.7 million). This is the first time in the sportswear producer’s history that such a figure has been achieved, beating expectations and maintaining the company’s run of 22 successive quarters in which revenue is reported to have increased by at least 20 per cent.
According to Under Armour, footwear sales and the growing number of high-profile endorsements – with stars of American football, basketball, baseball and golf – have helped to boost the sales figures. Revenue increased by 28 per cent to $1.2 billion (£783.2 million), compared to the $938 million (£612.2 million) in the third quarter of 2014. Earnings increased by 13 per cent to $100 million (£65.3 million) from $89 million (£58.1 million).
The company says that such strong growth proves that its decision to concentrate on the sales of its footwear collection is paying off. Under Armour’s footwear sales – especially of running, basketball, and training shoes – rose by 61 per cent to $196 million (£127.9 million). The company is also said to be working on plans to boost its women’s shoe collection.
