Mixed news for Argentina’s shoemakers
Footwear sales are up in Argentina, but so are imports.
Footwear consumption in Argentina is reported to have increased by 4.9 per cent in the first eight months of 2015, compared to the same period last year. According to figures compiled by Buenos Aires-based consultancy Investigaciones Económicas Sectoriales (IES), the country’s consumers bought some 84.2 million pairs of shoes, boots and sandals between January and August. However, this positive news was countered by additional information from IES which revealed that the growth in footwear imports into Argentina over the eight months grew by 10.7 per cent, with China, Brazil and Vietnam as the biggest providers of imported shoes.
