The Chinese government is to end a programme that provides export subsidies for companies engaged in seven economic sectors, including footwear, apparel and textiles, according to US trade representative Michael Froman.
"This agreement addresses all elements of the subsidy programme," he said. "It also ensures the necessary transparency to give us a solid basis to monitor closely and confirm whether the terms of the agreement are being met."
The decision comes a year after a US complaint to the World Trade Organisation regarding the scheme, alleging 'unfair, prohibited export subsidies to a large range of Chinese manufacturers and producers'.
