Under Armour opens innovation centre
The UA Lighthouse in Baltimore includes a facility for full body scanning in 3-D.
Sportswear producer Under Armour has opened a new facility for manufacturing and design innovation in Baltimore, USA. The centre – known as the 'UA Lighthouse' – will be used in the development of products and manufacturing processes.
"As Under Armour celebrates 20 years in business, we are committed, more than ever, to driving global innovation," commented Under Armour founder and chief executive, Kevin Plank.
The new centre reportedly includes 3-D design and body scanning technology which will be used in the creation of custom-made footwear and apparel. The company also intends to reduce waste produced during the development process.
According to Under Armour, members of staff will be able to use 3-D printing and rapid prototype manufacture in order to quickly turn their ideas into products.
