SATRA expert gives presentation at Sichuan University

SATRA’s Steve Rose was recently invited by Sichuan University's College of Light Industry, Textile and Food Engineering to give a technical presentation on the subject of 'complete footwear – fitness-for-purpose testing'. This is the third year SATRA has provided such technical assistance.

The 2016 event was hosted by Dr Xubo and Dr Zhou in the university's new campus. Some 100 delegates – including students and representatives of leading footwear manufacturers – attended to hear the presentation. Professor He gave the welcome speech to thank SATRA for its support and highlighted the cooperation between the two organisations. The event concluded with a question and answer session. Sichuan University has a good reputation for the quality of the education available in its footwear and leather department, with many of China’s new footwear and leather technologists graduating from the college every year.

Drs Xu and Zhou also arranged for Mr Rose and his SATRA colleague Vivien Hsieh to visit several footwear factories during their stay in Chengdu.

As part of the training scheme SATRA provides to Sichuan University, two students are invited to receive five weeks' training in SATRA’s Dongguan Office in August each year. This training is principally aimed at understanding the testing of footwear and the materials from which they are made. The students learn which tests are most appropriate for different types of footwear and, most importantly, receive hands-on experience of using the test machines and reporting results.
