The Rwandan Ministry of Trade and Industry (MINICOM) has contracted with two African companies to build footwear and garment factories in the Kigali Special Economic Zone (KSEZ). The firms are reported to have signed a five-year land lease agreement with MINICOM and will each receive 2.5 hectares plots on which to build. One facility will produce leather shoes and belts, with items from cotton, leather and other materials being manufactured in the other factory.
"I thank the investors who are present for being committed towards supporting the government’s long-term programme of promoting garment and footwear factories," said Rwanda’s trade minister,
François Kanimba.
