Positive results for Micam show
Nearly 45,000 visitors attended the three-day fair in Milan.
The 82nd edition of Micam, held in the Italian city of Milan in September, registered a 5.2 per cent increase in visitors over the three days of the exhibition. Some 44,668 visitors attended the three-day fair according to the organisers, who stated that 'the event showed important signs of growth, despite a complex economic situation in the footwear sector'.
"Unfortunately, the market continues to suffer and domestic demand continues to shrink, but the increase in attendance of Italian buyers gives hope for a turnaround," commented Annarita Pilotti, president of the Italian footwear manufacturers association, Assocalzaturifici. According to Ms Pilotti, the fair had a good response from others Europeans. Post-show figures reported a 27 per cent increase in visitors from Germany – the largest group visiting from another European country. There was also a boost in Asian visitors, with South Korean delegates up by 37 per cent and the number of visitors from China increasing by 30 per cent.
