Wolverine Worldwide expanding manufacturing plant
Growth for the Big Rapids plant which produces Bates military boots.
Wolverine Worldwide (WWW) recently 'broke ground' on a 16,000 square foot expansion to the company's manufacturing facility in Big Rapids, Michigan to add a new raw materials receiving warehouse. According to the company, the project will provide much-needed additional capacity while creating opportunities for WWW to operate more efficiently. More than 250 new jobs have been created in the Big Rapids manufacturing plant over this past year.
Built in 1964, the Big Rapids manufacturing plant originally produced Wolverine- and Hush Puppies-branded footwear. Today, this 80,000 square foot facility produces Bates brand footwear for the military, as well as 'Made in the USA' footwear for the Wolverine, HYTEST and Merrell brands. Completion of the expansion work is expected in early 2017.
