A hospital in the Italian region of Marche is to provide care for more patients, after the national footwear association Assocalzaturifici offered to donate ten new beds.
“We believe that an organisation like ours should accept responsibility not only for the footwear companies it represents, but for the area as a whole, and its overall development: industrial, commercial and social," said Assocalzaturifici president Annarita Pilotti.
This donation is the most recent of the association’s initiatives in a particularly difficult year for the region of Marche and for central Italy, which has suffered recent earthquakes. A series of major earthquakes struck the Marche and Umbria regions in October 2016. The third quake – on October 30th – was reportedly the largest in Italy for 36 years, at magnitude 6.5. Thankfully in this instance, the death toll was very low.
"I have been personally involved in every stage of earthquake response, offering concrete support for raising public awareness and helping the Civil Guard put together everything they needed to respond to the emergency," remarked Ms Pilotti. "We will not stop here, but continue to lend a hand to those who need it most."
