The chemical testing of leather
It is beneficial for everyone in the leather footwear supply chain to understand how the chemical composition of leather can significantly affect whether a product is ‘fit for purpose’ or not.
In this article, a few of the common tests used for the chemical evaluation of leather are explained, and some of the consequences that arise due to unsatisfactory results are highlighted. Possible causes of poor results and references to the test methods used are also included.
