Emma Safety Footwear receives largest-ever order
Dutch shoe manufacturer Emma Safety Footwear has been boosted by a contract placed by the United Arab Emirates armed forces for 375,000 pairs of desert boots. The order was recently signed in Abu Dhabi in the presence of Dutch ambassador Frank Mollen. At about $30 per pair, the order totals more than $11 million. The first batch of 150,000 pairs of boots will be delivered in 2018, with the remainder being shipped over the following two years.
Emma Safety Footwear has been working with the UAE military since 2014. Material for the boots will be prepared in the Netherlands town of Kerkrade, after which it will be send to partner company NFSSP in Abu Dhabi for assembly. To date, Emma Safety Footwear has developed a number of styles for the UAE military, including men’s and women’s officers’ shoes and 8,000 pairs of boots for the nation’s Air Force. The company has also won orders from other Middle Eastern countries, having a large contract from the Kuwait Oil Company last year.
