Plans have been announced to move producers of lower-priced footwear out of the Xiong’an New Area economic development zone – some 100km south west of Beijing – to nearby Dingzhou City. This is part of a strategy to attract high-end and high-tech sectors to the business hub.
Shoe and clothing manufacturers currently in Anxin County will relocate to a new centre which is to include production, sales, display, logistics and other supporting facilities. According to an agreement recently signed between Anxin's shoemaking industrial association and Dingzhou City, the zone will cover an area of almost 6.7 sq km, and will have an ‘environmentally friendly’ design. Construction of the project is scheduled to begin this year.
Anxin County has a history of footwear production of more than three decades, and is said to have more than 1,000 shoemakers. According to Dingzhou City party chief Wang Dongqun, the new centre would help to upgrade the traditional shoemaking industry.
