Comments invited on the future of EN ISO 20346
At the recent meetings of the CEN TC 161 European safety footwear technical committee and ISO technical committee ISO TC 94/SC3, the future of EN ISO 20346 was discussed. This standard covers performance requirements for protective footwear incorporating a 100J toe cap. Unlike the more popular 200J toe cap products, it was considered that very few footwear styles have been assessed against EN ISO 20346.
Several years ago, it was suggested to withdraw the standard, but a number of European member states were keen to retain it. However, while the main safety and occupational footwear standards are undergoing revision, the question relating to the continued validity of EN ISO 20346 has been raised once again.
Committee members agreed to canvas opinion from stakeholders, including manufacturers and users.
