New video promotes leather production
The presentation has been released as an attempt to counteract negative publicity about leather production.
A number of European tanneries, chemical manufacturers and brand owners have joined forces to release a video in English and German to promote what they describe as ‘responsibly-produced leather’. The presentation, which is also supported by industry body Leather Naturally, was produced to explain what these partners say are the facts about leather.
The video is said to be an attempt to counteract recent negative publicity aimed towards the leather industry. In the presentation, consumers are encouraged to choose products made from certified, sustainably produced leather, and the programme is supported by a factsheet developed by Leather Naturally.
According to Mike Redwood, visiting professor at the University of Northampton and spokesperson of Leather Naturally, many questions are received about leather which relate to animal welfare, safety and sustainability. “I also see a lot of fake facts about leather appear in the media,” he said. “I see this video as an important step in informing the buying public about the beauty, versatility and sustainability of leather.”
