Chemicals producer BASF is expanding its footwear industry activities through investment into laboratories and additional employees.
“We’re really pushing hard into the footwear market,” said Mike Krupa, BASF technical manager. “In fact, what we’re doing is investing in all three regions with the same equipment,” he said, referring to Asia, Europe and the USA.
According to Mr Krupa, footwear designers are using polyurethane and expanded thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers because of its design options and stability. The new investment is a result of the company having identified a need for uniformity in machinery and its materials that are used in production sites in many countries around the world.
