Strong sales reported for new year
A number of footwear producers have announced positive sales figures for the first quarter of 2018, including PUMA and Skechers.
Sportswear giant PUMA achieved footwear sales in excess of $1.3 billion during this period, which represents an increase of 12.5 per cent compared to the same quarter in 2017. According to a PUMA spokesperson, the company had recorded double-digit growth ‘in all regions and product segments’ during these three months. PUMA’s growth in Asia was almost 35 per cent, with sales led by its performance in the Chinese market.
US-based Skechers logged a new quarterly sales record between January and March, with sales totalling $1.25 billion. This was a growth of 16.5 per cent compared to the first quarter of last year. Company-owned retail income was boosted by 26.4 per cent year-on-year, sales in the international wholesale market increased by 17.9 per cent, and the value of purchases through domestic wholesale were 8.5 per cent higher.
