Second Ecotextyle meeting reviews training modules
The second two-day meeting of the Ecotextyle project recently took place at SATRA’s head office in Kettering. This European initiative is organised under the European Commission’s ‘Erasmus+’ programme to educate about product environmental footprints on footwear and textile production. As before, SATRA’s John Hubbard and Tom Bayes represented the UK, and joined delegates from Bulgarian, Italian, Polish, Slovenian and Spanish organisations to discuss environmental impacts resulting from footwear and textile production.
Since the first time the project group was convened (in February 2018), contributors had developed content for learning modules to enable personnel within the relevant industries to gain a better understanding of sustainability issues, and these had been reviewed by all the members of the group. During this second meeting, the five modules currently written (covering product lifecycle analysis, eco design, environmental footprint, eco labelling and new product environmental footprint) were discussed and exercises were created for each module to ensure that students understood what they were learning.
New modules will now be written and sent to the other members for translation. The next meeting is scheduled to take place in October 2018 in Krakow, Poland. By that time, the modules will be available on a test platform designed by the Bulgarian members, and items for discussion will include how the information will be presented to the footwear and textile industries.
