Synthetic suedes and nubucks – part 1
Exploring the variety of synthetic suedes and nubucks available for footwear manufacturers and the critical tests that can be used to assess them.
Synthetic ('faux') suede and nubuck, as the name suggests, are synthetic materials that resemble real suede and nubuck, and generally come under the collective description of 'man-made upper materials'. This collective term covers coated fabrics, textiles and laminates, as well as rubber and plastic moulded or vulcanised materials. In fact, it includes all upper materials excluding leather.
