Descente to open new research facility
Descente Limited is to establish a global footwear research and development centre in Busan, South Korea and an apparel R&D facility in Osaka, Japan. These investments are said to be aimed at augmenting the company’s product development ability.
The footwear R&D centre is under construction in the Gangseo district of Busan. The two-story building will have a total floor area of some 16,000 square metres and will house a design studio dedicated to concept development and engineering design, a research laboratory where trend and consumer research – including ergonomics and biomechanics studies – will be conducted, a materials laboratory for material development and testing, and a product laboratory where members of staff will make samples and develop innovative products. In addition, indoor and outdoor tracks will be built to carry out research on materials, footwear prototypes and finished sports shoe production models.
SATRA has provided key machines for the state-of-the-art footwear R&D centre, which is expected to open its doors in October 2018. In line with this, Descente has begun hiring talented designers, as well as research and development professionals.
