SATRA takes science and technology to local show
Visitors of all ages enjoyed sharing in SATRA experiments.
BBC Radio Northampton recently held a ‘Northamptonshire Day’ at Delapré Abbey – which can trace its history back for over 900 years – to draw attention to the significant diversity found around this English midlands county. SATRA exhibited with the aim of highlighting its long heritage and to provide members of the public with a taste of the organisation’s technological activities, as well as explaining the variety of careers available at SATRA. Zach Armitage, Harriet Mason, Connor Mehew and Sosennah Every met visitors of all ages and showed them a number of fascinating experiments, including chromatography to assess the colour fastness of sugar-coated sweets, and tests for wicking, thermal imaging, slip resistance and the water resistance of walking boots, as well as examples of 3D printed items. They also demonstrated abrasion and tensile testing, and showed how footwear is made. It was a very successful day, with more than 1,000 visitors to the stand. Everybody enjoyed the SATRA experiments, and the giveaway branded water bottles also proved very popular.
