Updated SATRA RSL now available
SATRA has published the latest edition of its Footwear Restricted Substances List.
Issue 17 of SATRA’s Footwear Restricted Substances List (RSL) includes the 33 substances listed in REACH Regulation (EU) No 1907/2006 Annex XVII entry 72, which will come into force on 1st November 2020. This new entry 72 concerns substances classified as ‘carcinogenic’ (may cause cancer), ‘mutagenic’ (may be capable of inducing genetic mutation) or those highlighted as ‘toxic for reproduction’. There will be maximum concentration limits which will take effect on the above date. These new restrictions are applicable to textiles and more information on entry 72 is included in the article on page 32 of this magazine.
The current list of 69 restricted substances in REACH Annex XVII was published on 21st February 2019. These have been considered when collating information for our restricted substances lists, along with legislation in the USA, Korea and national legislation within European countries.
The ISO 17025 accredited chemical testing laboratory here at SATRA routinely tests leathergoods, footwear, footwear components and other consumer products for the presence of restricted substances. This testing can be conducted on materials before articles are manufactured, or we can test samples from bulk production. Once testing has been completed, test results can be reported against the legislative requirements, or against individual brand owner’s or retailer’s specifications, depending on our customer’s request.
