Popularity of sidewall stitched construction
Examining the sidewall stitched construction, which is still widely used for light, flexible, casual and leisure footwear.
There are several reasons why sidewall stitching appeals to manufacturers. Firstly, it is relatively inexpensive to produce as there is no need for sophisticated lasting machinery and less labour is involved. In addition, because the upper is cut net to the featherline (or slightly above in some instances), significant material savings can also be made – as much as 10 per cent.
