Arsutoria showcases autumn/winter 2020 trends

Reporting on recent events that gave insight into next year's fashion.

Orietta Pelizzari from the Arsutoria Design School in Milan led another stimulating trends forecast workshop for SATRA members in June. The programme was given at both SATRA’s Kettering head office and at the London College of Fashion (LCF) in conjunction with its ‘future footwear and wearable tech’ symposium.

The events were attended by some 50 SATRA members, along with students from the LCF. In the workshops, which commenced with a presentation on the impact of sustainability on innovation, Orietta explained the need for honesty in the fashion industry and a commitment to environmental responsibility. Topics of current importance and discussion include recycling, upcycling, traceability, transparency, authenticity and telling the ‘story’ of a product.

Orietta’s presentations highlighted sustainable materials as the main focus for the forthcoming seasons, and drew attention to the fact that innovation is a consequence of sustainability. She explained that many new and exciting finishes and techniques are produced as manufacturers use different materials and chemical processes that are more sustainable.

The colour palette

The fashion focus was on trends of colours and materials for the forthcoming autumn/winter 2020 season. The trends identified in the event were called ‘Rich Intense’, ‘Slow Core’ and ‘Virtual Adventure’.

The Rich Intense collection concentrates on shades of cream and dusty rose, combined with brown and deep blue hues. Slow core uses brown, deep red, taupe and faded yellow, as well as toned-down military green and grey tones. Virtual Adventure focuses on purple, rose, fuchsia red, black, grey and blue tones accompanied by greenish-yellow and grey-blue accents.
