International sporting goods producer Decathlon has opened its first store in Algeria. With retail outlets already operating in Morocco and Tunisia, the company – which was founded in 1976 and has headquarters in the northern French city of Villeneuve d’Ascq, reported that it considered the opening in this third North African country to be a natural next step.
The new Decathlon store is in the capital, Algiers. It occupies over 1,850 square metres and is said to stock 14,000 products for 55 different activities, including cycling, running and water sports, as well as team events such as basketball and football. Decathlon has more than 1,500 stores in 51 countries, and offers over 20 brands, each dedicated to a specific sport.
