Caleres announces China joint venture
Diane Sullivan has announced a 'significant expansion' of Caleres' activity in the Chinese market.
US-based footwear producer Caleres has announced an expansion of its international sales strategy. The company, which was founded in 1878, will begin to distribute footwear in greater China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan through a joint venture with Brand Investment Holding – a multi-brand retail management and distribution company based in Shanghai with retail operations in the Greater China and Asia Pacific regions. The first brands made available under this new agreement will be Naturalizer and Sam Edelman, both of which will be marketed across multiple channels, including branded retail stores and e-commerce sites.
“We believe now is the right time to significantly expand our presence in China and are beginning with Naturalizer, as we look to create fresh momentum with the Chinese consumer, and are also aggressively building on the strong foundation Sam Edelman has established in China over the past few years,” said Diane Sullivan, chief executive, president and chairman of Caleres.
The first Naturalizer store is to open in Beijing, and a Sam Edelman branded outlet will be located in Shanghai. Additional stores are planned as the regional business increases.
Caleres currently has over 1,200 branded retail locations around the world, as well as a presence in department stores, on branded online sites, and with a number of third-party retailers. The company’s other brands include Blowfish Malibu, Dr Scholl’s Shoes, Famous Footwear, Ryka and Vionic.
