Mexican associations working together
Plans have been announced for the establishment of a centre to provide shared intelligence for footwear and leathergoods manufacturers in the Mexican state of Guanajuato. This would be a fruit of a collaboration between different industry bodies that is reportedly growing in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Luis Gerardo González García, president of CICEG – the main footwear industry body in Guanajuato – discussions between leaders of industry and state government ministers have already been held to consider support for this project.
“It would be wonderful for us to be able to have such an intelligence platform at our disposal and to be able to learn what technology and innovation there is out there in the world,” stated Mr González García, who added that he was very excited at the way different industry bodies were working together to help their member companies recover.
Mexico’s shoe manufacturing sector is concentrated in three major areas: León in Guanajuato state, Guadalajara in the state of Jalisco, and in and around Mexico City.
