Strength testing of upper materials
Reviewing the test methods used to assess the basic strength of footwear upper and lining materials.
One of the most basic physical properties of any material is its strength – the force required to break or rupture it when it is put under stress or strain. While there are a variety of strength tests that can be conducted on a piece of material, this article will concentrate on the two most commonly used in footwear testing – ‘tear strength’ and ‘breaking’ or ‘tensile strength’.
