Evaluating the washability of footwear
Recent years have seen an increase in the popularity of washable footwear with more consumers now expecting casual footwear to be machine washable.
Machine washing of footwear was once carried out only on slippers or to try to freshen up footwear (usually limited to light-coloured trainers with textile or coated fabric uppers). Shoe manufacturers have responded quickly to the demands of the market by developing footwear that is specifically designed to be washed – particularly children’s footwear, adult’s trainers and casual styles.
