SATRA presentation at science summit
A Wenzhou event provided the opportunity to highlight the importance of comfort testing in footwear design.
The World Young Scientist Summit (WYSS) is an academic event held each year for emerging talent in the field. It is jointly sponsored by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province. Acknowledging that the global future of science and technology is dependent on the young, WYSS attracts interest from a variety of industries, as well as venture capitalists, arts organisations and other societal endeavours.
At this year’s event, SATRA was invited to share its view and knowledge on innovation within the footwear industry. SATRA China general manager Anthony Mak delivered a presentation entitled ‘The future trend of footwear product development testing – comfort’. During this discussion, he highlighted SATRA’s 101-year-long experience as a research institute, discussed its role in the footwear supply chain, and developed the importance of footwear comfort testing. Mr Mak also gave details of SATRA’s range of equipment for comfort testing, including the STM 567 Endofoot.
WYSS was an excellent opportunity to share knowledge and, during a panel discussion in the afternoon, Mr Mak was able to discuss the future of footwear development in China. SATRA looks forward to further collaborations of this kind.
Before leaving Wenzhou, Mr Mak and Ken Li, (SATRA Greater China and South East Asia business development manager), visited the Kangnai Group. A SATRA Gold Member for more than ten years, the Kangnai Group has been incorporating comfort as one of the key elements in its footwear development process. Ms Zheng Lai Li, deputy managing director of the Kangnai Group, met Mr Mak and Mr Li to explain the importance of footwear comfort as part of the organisation’s market strategies. They then toured its history museum and learned about the group’s development and achievements.
