Evaluating box toes and counters

Shape – often provided by the box toe and counter – is a highly important characteristic of footwear. This article discusses the techniques used to test these components.

Whichever types of box toes and counters are chosen, they must be capable of maintaining their shape once they have been moulded and recovering from the frequent deformations that occur in wear. They must also be capable of being bonded adequately to the upper material and not lose adhesion in wear.
