Argentina introducing new shoe sizing standard
The Government of Argentina has advised that footwear manufacturers and retailers will have until the end of July 2021 to ensure that Argentinian sizes are clearly displayed on any of their products (and the packaging) sold in the South American country. In line with the new ‘AR’ standard, Argentinian size 41 will correspond to European size 42, UK size 8 and US size 8½.
According to the resolution signed by the secretary of domestic trade, ‘producers and manufacturers of merchandise, packers, those who order or manufacture, and importers, will be responsible for the veracity of the indications on the labels.’ Imports and trading of goods in the domestic market which do not comply with this characteristic will be prohibited, and any companies that fail to comply by July 31st will – according to the official statement – face sanctions.
The ministry of industrial development’s intention in this regard was reported in mid-April, when it announced that Argentinian consumers were to have ‘clear information about the products they are buying’, in addition to giving a boost to locally-produced footwear.
