France’s tanning industry association Fédération Française de la Tannerie Mégisserie (FFTM) has announced the birth of the ‘French Leather Marketplace’ – a new online provision created to assist designers and leather buyers.
According to an FFTM spokesperson, tanners of hides and small skins in France want to be in step with their customers’ creative needs and to offer them a continuous flow of new ideas. The French Leather Marketplace is described as ‘a unique tool for fashion industry professionals sourcing high-quality leather’.
The new development is claimed to provide leather buyers with direct access to tanners alongside details of several hundred leather articles currently available, while presenting two seasonal preview collections of leather each year. Free access to the information – given without charge – is to be limited to professional buyers, designers and artisans. Twenty-seven French leather manufacturers are reported to have already agreed to use the internet-based strategy to showcase their collections.
