Caleres’ Famous Footwear brand has reported the highest level of second quarter net sales in its history, at close to $454 million (£333 million). This total represents an increase of around 36 per cent over the same pandemic-affected period in 2020 and even an 8 per cent growth over pre-COVID Q2 in 2019. In fact, the brand’s Q2 2021 figures delivered operating earnings that exceeded the whole of 2019. Income via e-commerce proved important in this achievement, with digital sales said to have grown by more than 50 per cent compared to Q2 of 2019. In addition, the value of purchases from Famous Footwear’s 900-plus stores across the USA is reported to have risen by more than 10 per cent over the second quarter of 2019.

In highlighting brick-and-mortar success, Caleres chairman and chief executive Diane Sullivan underlined the importance of what she termed ‘personal interaction’ at stores, which is said to have contributed towards an increase in the number of new participants who have signed up for Famous Footwear’s membership programme.
