Texon launches sustainably-sourced heel counter
Texon Reform 2.0 is said to be resistant to moisture breakdown and have excellent wear properties.
Footwear structural materials producer Texon has unveiled Reform 2.0, which is being marketed as a new and improved version of its heel counter for use in athletic, casual, dress, outdoor or safety shoes. According to the company, this contains up to 66 per cent of sustainably-sourced content while offering the same physical traits as its predecessor.
As part of a closed-loop process, production of Reform 2.0 uses post-industrial cutting waste taken back from tier one factories. Texon therefore anticipates that around 300 tonnes of cutting waste can be saved from landfill each year. In addition, the heel counter’s hot-melt adhesive layer contains 45 per cent of bio-based content derived from pine tree resin.
From a performance perspective, Reform 2.0 is said to be resistant to moisture breakdown, have excellent wear properties and achieve a balance between stiffness and resilience. Texon Reform 2.0 is available in 1 m x 1.45 m sheets or in rolls – with a single or double adhesive coating. It can also be delivered pre-cut, skived and ready to use.
