Zago develops ‘Arctic Grip’ moulds
The moulds were specially developed to carry the same inserts in all shoe sizes.
Italy-based Zago Moulds Solutions has produced what it calls a ‘specific technology to achieve top-tier grip performance in Arctic environments’ in conjunction with longstanding footwear solings partner Vibram.
According to a Zago spokesperson, the design of the polyurethane (PU) injection-moulded sole for this ‘Arctic Grip’ project included several special inserts. Having been asked to develop the full range of moulds for all sizes, an issue to be addressed by Zago was how to efficiently manage the inserts’ own sizing. Producing inserts of different dimensions for each shoe size would have made the large-scale injection and production process too intricate to be efficiently carried out. Therefore, Zago develop moulds that could accommodate the same inserts being loaded for all sizes while maintaining the technical features of the Arctic Grip sole.
