Evaluating elastics for footwear applications
How these commonly-used materials are assessed to establish their elasticity and durability.
The main footwear use of elastic is as a fastening system, in which it must stretch sufficiently to allow foot entry while retaining optimum tension to hold the shoe comfortably and securely on the foot. It is important that these two characteristics last throughout the lifetime of the footwear. Furthermore, if the elastic is visible, it should retain its appearance.
