New Balance opens US factory
Sportswear producer New Balance has opened a new athletic footwear factory in Methuen, Massachusetts. The 80,000 square foot facility, which underwent a USD 20 million renovation, began production in January 2022. It is said to signal the company’s strong commitment to American manufacturing and its pride in US craftsmanship. According to New Balance, significant investment has been made in innovation and machinery which, combined with the integration of lean manufacturing processes, enables a responsive ‘MADE US’ supply network.
The factory currently employs more than 90 members of staff producing the MADE 990v5 running shoe, with plans in place to more than double this workforce and production capabilities by the end of the year. New Balance now owns five plants in Maine and Massachusetts where some 1,000 workers prepare athletic shoe materials and components and then assemble them into the final product.
