Testing last plastic for breaking strength
Last failure usually results from weak plastic. Since the problem came to light in the 1980s, SATRA has regularly been asked to assess breaking strength, as this articleexplains.
Extreme last designs can contribute to last failure – for example, pointed or bulbous toe shapes will increase the strains on the plastic during shoe manufacture and lower quality materials carry a risk of breaking.
