LATAM shoemakers gather for industry forum
Representatives from 13 national footwear industry bodies attended the event.
Guatemala’s national footwear industry association – Grecalza – hosted the XXIV Latin American Footwear Forum in Guatemala City on August 8th and 9th, at which footwear industry professionals gathered from all parts of the region to discuss a variety of key issues.
During the event, Brazil’s Abicalçados body presented its ‘Origem Sustentável’ (‘Sustainable Origin’) programme, calling it “the only environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) and sustainability certification system in the global footwear production industry”. This scheme is said to be based on the best sustainability practices in the world while following five dimensions indicators which involve economic, environmental, social, cultural and sustainability management.
In addition to the Brazilian and Guatemalan contributions, a number of representatives from the national footwear industry bodies of Argentina, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Equador, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela took part in the forum.
