The ongoing programme of webinars presented by SATRA experts on a variety of key topics is proving very popular with members around the world. Hundreds of online attendees have taken advantage of this provision, all of whom have the opportunity to pose questions before the event, during the presentation or afterwards. Answers can then be provided either as a live response at the conclusion of the session (when it is presented live) or as personalised emailed advice, which is a particularly valuable service whenever any confidential information about the member’s products is being discussed.
The following webinars – reserved for SATRA members only – will be presented at 10:00 GMT and repeated at 16:00 GMT for delegates who are located in North and South America.
Thursday 3rd November 2022 – ‘EN 13832:2018 – Footwear protecting against chemicals’. Experts from SATRA’s chemistry and footwear teams will discuss the requirements and test methods outlined in EN 13832:2018 parts 1, 2 and 3. This standard is relevant to all footwear that comes into contact with chemicals and defines the requirements for short-term and long-term exposure to chemicals. Test methods including splashing resistance, chemical permeation and degradation, elongation at break and tear resistance will also be explained. Please note that the 16:00 GMT webinar is a recording of the session held earlier that day.
Thursday 10th November 2022 – ‘Sole bonding adhesives in footwear’. While sole bond adhesion is a well-established process in shoemaking, it is important that the risks of any potential bonding issues are regularly assessed and monitored. Poor sole bond can lead to quality issues, causing customer returns and an associated loss of reputation, as well as potential personal injury claims. Presented by a SATRA footwear expert, this webinar will cover the basics of sole bond adhesion, the key characteristics of common sole bonding adhesives, and relevant surface pre-treatments. The main test methods used to assess adhesive bonds will also be discussed, including pre-production testing with new materials, as well as the finished product.
In addition to the regular live events, SATRA has built an online library of recordings of the webinars as well as supplementary video presentations on a number of key footwear-related issues, access to which is reserved for member companies. This online provision ensures that all members who were unable to watch the live online events can still benefit from the experience of SATRA’s experts and other industry figures by logging onto the dedicated website section whenever they choose.
