Assessing salt spue on footwear uppers
Salt stains, often termed as a ‘salt spue’, on leather-uppered footwear look unsightly and can be due to contamination or material faults.
Particularly during winter, the most common cause of salt spue on footwear is external contamination. However, salt spues can occur at any time of the year when the problem is due to factors inherent in the materials – most often involving upper or lining leather. While often tolerated by wearers, salt spues can lead to dissatisfaction and some wear returns.
