US news magazine Time has included footwear and textile products in its annual ‘Best Inventions’ list for 2022. The contenders are evaluated on ‘ambition, efficacy, impact and originality’, and the report states that “this year, in a rapidly shifting world, innovation boomed.” A new running shoe design appears in the ‘Fitness’ category, and there is also a special mention for a comfortable outdoor slipper. The list’s ‘Style’ category includes the first commercially-available lyocell material produced by a chemical process which recycles post-consumer cotton textile waste, in addition to a fibre for textiles derived from wood pulp.
