Death of SATRA China office colleague
John Reed was appointed deputy general manager of SATRA’s China office in 2016.
We are saddened to inform our readers of the death of SATRA’s China office deputy general manager and technical manager, John Reed. John first joined SATRA in 1996 as a laboratory technician employed in the UK-based adhesives department’s materials and product evaluation centre. He continued to work with adhesives throughout various departmental mergers until 2004, when he became a member of the quality services team. In this new position, John calibrated laboratory equipment and achieved his lead auditor qualification, which allowed him to undertake auditing on SATRA’s behalf. This role required John to spend an increasing amount of time in China, which led to him joining the China team permanently in 2012 as a senior technologist when the new SATRA China office was opened.
John settled well in China, reportedly helped by the ability to watch Liverpool FC’s matches on TV and being able to experience a new culture, which helped to feed his interest in history. In 2015, he married Emily in Hong Kong, with whom he had two children. John was appointed deputy general manager of the China office in 2016 and, later in the same year, he took on additional responsibilities as technical manager.
After being appointed to his role in the China office, John played a key part in the continued success of SATRA’s operation in the region by maintaining its technical expertise and quality systems, as well as ensuring the development of the China-based team. He will be greatly missed by his colleagues in both China and the UK, and our thoughts remain with his family.
